The Mine Safety Technology Consortium is developing an aggressive agenda for 2009 focusing on the development and delivery of training programs to promote entrepreneurship and mine safety training.

The curriculum MSTC offers with the Women’s Business and Training Center focuses on the necessary skill sets needed for a developing business or mature business to grow and prosper. Classes will be taught in Montgomery in the Upper Kanawha Valley Technology Community building beginning in January and running through April.

MSTC will also be offering training programs to assist in the workforce development needed to meet the demands of the mining industry. A series of programs and curriculum will focus on the training of apprentice miners to specific skill sets such as miner electricians.

MSTC will partner with Bridgemont Community and Technical College to offer the 40 hour surface and 80 hour underground classes for A.S. Degree programs at the CTC in the Spring Semester of 2009. The classes will also be offered regionally throughout the state.

By second quarter 2009, MSTC will offer a training program to issue certificates for miner electricians. The certificate program will be offered in conjunction with the workforce development program at Bridgemont Community and Technical College.

MSTC will sponsor a Miners Conference at the Raleigh County Convention Center on July 22-24th, 2009. The conference will focus on the history of the mining industry and provide a forum to share resources and information to aid in the development of a new generation of miner and promote the innovations of mining in the 21st century. Additionally, the conference will provide opportunities for educational programs for entrepreneurship training, retraining and certification for miners, as well as a job fair for individuals who have interest in a profession in the mining field.
