This is our story; an overview of the organization and our commitment to the West Virginia Coal Miner. Highlighted is the inaugural 2009 Miners’ Celebration at the Beckley Raleigh County Convention Center; the video was developed Left Brain Right Brain Productions. The 2010 Miners’ Celebration at the Resort at Glade Springs was an opportunity to honor three West Virginia coal miners for their dedication and service to mining industry. MSTC and the partners for the 2010 Miners’ selected three mining professionals from a nominee field of over 53 mining professionals in three categories: Community Service; Innovation; and Heroism. The winners are: Larry Armentrout for Innovation, Larry developed the Bolter Bit Pliers; he works for Brooks Run Coal and lives in Cowan, West Virginia. Jim Owens for Heroism; Jim works with a disability, his leg had to be amputated after a mining accident over twenty years ago. Jim works for Alliance Coal and lives in Mineral Wells, West Virginia. Leslie Wellmen for Community Service, Larry was nominated posthumously by his son Dennis Wellmen. Larry resided in Logan, West Virginia and worked on behalf of the UMWA to create the first Black Lung Clinic in Logan County, West Virginia. The video was developed by Presidio Studios.
