In 2009, we took the mining industry by storm.

10 classes developed. 125 people trained. 100% certification passing rate. 3 safety products assisted. 10 trade shows participated. 100s of people impacted.

MSTC created an aggressive agenda focusing on the design and implementation of training programs promoting entrepreneurship and mine safety training, providing assistance to many companies located in West Virginia, and creating awareness about the organization and the mining industry.

Fifty three vendors, 150 participants, and mine industry job fair and career development counselors participated in the event held at the Raleigh County Armory in Beckley.

2009 was a banner year for MSTC. We empowered the West Virginia mining industry through training, networking, and supporting local innovators.

The continued synergy with the Women’s Business and Training Center provided opportunities for educational programs and skills enhancement for small business owners and entrepreneurs. In total, eight classes were offered during the year. In this series of classes alone, we offered training to seventy-five people during 2009.

In the specialized, high-tech classroom built at Bridegmont Community and Technical College, MSTC offered apprentice mining classes and a Miner EMT program. These classes provided job opportunities for over fifty people. The MSTC Apprentice Miner classes witnessed a 100% passing rate for their certification.

During the year, MSTC attended seven trade shows and conferences related to the mining industry and launched a ground-breaking miners’ conference.
